Transgressive surface
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003890
A marine flooding surface that marks a period of rising sea level and landward migration of the shoreline, resulting in the deposition of finer-grained sediments over coarser ones. This surface represents a break in sedimentation, often characterized by an abrupt change in lithology or fossil content. It is a key stratigraphic marker for sequence stratigraphic analysis in sedimentary basins.
