Transgression
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003888
A geological event where sea level rises relative to the land, causing the shoreline to move inland and submerging previously exposed land. This process results in the deposition of younger sedimentary layers over older ones in a landward direction. Evidence of transgression includes fining-upward sequences and marine fossils found in continental deposits.
