Onlap
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002621
A stratigraphic relationship where younger sedimentary layers terminate progressively against an older, inclined surface. This pattern indicates a transgression, where sea level is rising relative to the land, causing sediments to be deposited further inland. Onlap surfaces are often key indicators of sequence boundaries in seismic stratigraphy.
