Downlap
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001156
A seismic reflection pattern where younger, overlying strata terminate progressively downwards against an older, underlying inclined surface. This geometry indicates a period of progradation, where sediment supply outpaced subsidence, causing deposition to extend basinward. Downlap surfaces are key features in sequence stratigraphy, often marking sequence boundaries or maximum flooding surfaces.
