Down lap
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001149
A seismic reflection pattern where younger, overlying strata terminate progressively downwards against an older, underlying inclined surface. This indicates a period of progradation, where sediment supply outpaced subsidence, causing deposition to extend basinward. Downlap surfaces often represent sequence boundaries or maximum flooding surfaces in sequence stratigraphy.
