Downdip
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001150
The direction that is directly down the steepest angle of a tilted geologic surface, such as a bedding plane, fault, or the top of a reservoir formation. It is the direction in which groundwater or hydrocarbons would flow under the influence of gravity if the rock were permeable. The direction of downdip is perpendicular to the strike of the geologic surface and is measured as an angle from the horizontal.
