Strike-slip fault

A type of fault where the dominant movement of the rock blocks is horizontal and parallel to the strike of the fault plane. These faults result from shear stress and can be either right-lateral (dextral) or left-lateral (sinistral). The San Andreas Fault is a prominent example of a strike-slip fault.
