Wrench fault
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004182
A strike-slip fault characterized by nearly horizontal movement, where blocks of the Earth's crust slide past each other. These faults accommodate shear stress and can create complex structural traps for hydrocarbons, such as flower structures or pull-apart basins. The San Andreas Fault in California is a well-known example of a large-scale wrench fault system.
