Wormhole
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004181
A large, high-permeability channel created in a carbonate formation during an acid stimulation treatment. As acid is injected below the pressure required to fracture the rock, it preferentially dissolves the rock along certain paths, forming a network of dominant, finger-like conduits. These channels bypass near-wellbore damage and can extend deep into the reservoir, creating highly conductive flow paths for hydrocarbons.
