Acid stimulation
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000033
A well treatment technique involving the injection of acid into a reservoir to dissolve formation minerals, enlarge pore spaces, and improve the flow of hydrocarbons into the wellbore. In carbonate reservoirs, hydrochloric acid or acetic acid is used to dissolve limestone and dolomite. In sandstone reservoirs, mud acid (a mixture of hydrofluoric and hydrochloric acids) dissolves clay minerals and silicates.
