Acid number

A measure of the amount of potassium hydroxide, expressed in milligrams, required to neutralize the acidic components in one gram of an oil sample. This value indicates the concentration of organic acids present in crude oil or lubricants. A higher acid number can suggest increased corrosivity or degradation of the oil.
