Inhibited acid

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001979

An acid solution, typically hydrochloric or hydrofluoric acid, that contains chemical additives designed to reduce its corrosive effect on metal tubulars and downhole equipment. These inhibitors form a protective film on the metal surface, allowing the acid to react primarily with the formation rock rather than the well components. The effectiveness of the inhibitor depends on temperature and acid concentration.
