Organic acid
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004401
A type of acid containing carbon atoms, such as formic acid or acetic acid, used in well stimulation and matrix acidizing treatments. These acids react more slowly with carbonate formations than strong mineral acids like hydrochloric acid, which permits deeper penetration into the reservoir before the acid is spent. Organic acids are also less corrosive to downhole tubulars and equipment, especially at high temperatures.
