Fatty acid

An organic carboxylic acid with a long aliphatic chain, which can be saturated or unsaturated. In drilling fluids, fatty acids and their derivatives are used as emulsifiers, lubricants, and corrosion inhibitors. Oleic acid and tall oil fatty acids are common examples used in oil-based muds.
