Fatty-acid soap
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001376
A salt formed by the reaction of a fatty acid with a base, such as sodium hydroxide or calcium hydroxide. These compounds act as effective emulsifiers in drilling fluids, particularly in oil-based muds, by reducing interfacial tension between oil and water. They contribute to the stability of the emulsion and can also provide some lubricity.
