Oil-emulsion mud
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002608
A drilling fluid where oil is dispersed as droplets within a continuous water phase, stabilized by emulsifiers. This type of mud, also known as an oil-in-water emulsion, provides enhanced lubricity and shale inhibition compared to simple water-based muds. The oil content in these systems typically ranges from 5% to 20% by volume.
