Oil mud

A drilling fluid in which oil is the continuous phase and water is the dispersed phase, forming an invert emulsion. These muds are used for drilling through water-sensitive formations, high-temperature wells, or when lubricity is required. They offer superior shale inhibition and thermal stability compared to water-based muds.
