Oil-in-water emulsion
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002611
A fluid system where small droplets of a non-aqueous liquid, such as oil or synthetic fluid, are dispersed as the internal phase within a continuous external phase of water. Emulsifiers are added to create and maintain this stable mixture, which is a type of water-based drilling fluid known as an emulsion mud. Unlike invert emulsions where water is the internal phase, oil-in-water emulsions have water as the continuous phase, giving them electrical conductivity similar to other water-based muds.
