Emulsion mud
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001297
A drilling fluid system where one liquid phase is dispersed as fine droplets within another continuous liquid phase, stabilized by an emulsifier. These muds are either oil-in-water or water-in-oil, offering benefits such as improved lubricity, enhanced shale inhibition, and better temperature stability compared to water-based muds. The choice of emulsion type depends on the wellbore conditions and desired fluid properties.
