Emulsifier

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001294

A chemical additive that facilitates the formation and stabilization of an emulsion, which is a mixture of two immiscible liquids, such as oil and water. In drilling fluids, emulsifiers create stable oil-in-water or water-in-oil emulsions, allowing the continuous phase to carry the dispersed phase. These agents reduce interfacial tension and prevent the separation of the two liquid phases.
