Oil on cuttings

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002601

The quantity of oil-based or synthetic-based drilling fluid adhering to drill cuttings when they reach the surface. This measurement is a key environmental and economic performance indicator, as it represents both a potential pollutant and a loss of expensive fluid. Regulatory limits on the oil on cuttings (OOC) dictate how cuttings must be treated or disposed of, with values expressed as a percentage by weight, determined by retort analysis or solvent extraction.
