Oil content

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002595

The volume percentage of oil in a sample of drilling fluid, cuttings, or produced water. In drilling fluids, it is measured using a retort kit, which separates the fluid into its oil, water, and solid components by distillation. For an oil-based mud, the oil content, along with water and solids content, defines the oil-water ratio and solids concentration, which are key design and maintenance parameters.
