Synthetic/water ratio
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003743
The volumetric ratio of the synthetic liquid phase to the emulsified water or brine phase in a synthetic-based drilling fluid. This ratio is a primary parameter for controlling the mud's density, rheology, filtration characteristics, and overall stability. The synthetic/water ratio is determined using a retort kit, which separates and measures the volumes of synthetic fluid, water, and solids from a mud sample, and is typically maintained in a range from 70/30 to 95/5.
