An abbreviation for oil/brine ratio, the volumetric proportion of oil to brine in the liquid phase of an oil-base or synthetic-base invert emulsion mud. A ratio such as 80/20 means 80 percent oil and 20 percent brine of the liquid volume, excluding solids, and it is read from a retort test. Common values range from 70/30 to 90/10.
