An abbreviation for oil on cuttings, the amount of oil-base or synthetic-base mud retained on drill cuttings that reach the surface, expressed as a percentage of cuttings weight. It is measured by retort or solvent extraction after the cuttings pass the solids-control equipment, and it determines whether the cuttings can be discharged, treated or shipped to shore. The OSPAR limit for North Sea discharge is 1 percent by weight.
