Oil pool

A subsurface accumulation of crude oil within a porous and permeable rock formation, sealed by an impermeable cap rock. It is a discrete body of oil that occupies the pore spaces of the reservoir rock. Oil pools are often found in structural traps like anticlines or fault traps, or in stratigraphic traps formed by changes in rock type.
