Oil sand

A naturally occurring mixture of sand, clay, water, and bitumen, a heavy, viscous form of petroleum. The bitumen is too thick to flow at reservoir temperatures and pressures, requiring specialized extraction methods such as steam injection or mining. Major deposits are found in Alberta, Canada, and the Orinoco Belt in Venezuela.
