Bitumen

A viscous, black, tar-like form of petroleum that is too heavy or thick to flow easily at reservoir temperatures. It consists primarily of hydrocarbons with high molecular weights and often contains sulfur, nitrogen, and oxygen compounds. Bitumen is a key component of oil sands deposits and requires specialized extraction and upgrading processes.
