Coke
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000742
A solid, carbonaceous residue formed from the thermal decomposition of hydrocarbons, often found in refinery processes or as a byproduct of heavy oil upgrading. In enhanced oil recovery, coke can accumulate in porous media during in-situ combustion, reducing permeability and affecting fluid flow. It is primarily composed of carbon with minor amounts of sulfur, nitrogen, and metals.
