Bit trip

The process of pulling the drill string out of the wellbore to replace a worn or damaged drill bit, and then running a new bit back into the hole. This operation is necessary when the bit's cutting efficiency decreases or when a different bit type is required for a new formation. A typical bit trip can take several hours, depending on well depth.
