Oil mining
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002599
A method of extracting oil from shallow, heavy oil deposits or oil sands by surface mining techniques, rather than traditional drilling. This involves excavating the oil-bearing formation, then processing the mined material to separate the oil from the sand and other impurities. It is typically applied to deposits that are too viscous or too shallow for conventional production methods.
