Oil kitchen
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002598
A subsurface region where organic-rich source rocks have reached sufficient temperature and pressure conditions to generate and expel liquid hydrocarbons. This process, known as catagenesis, converts kerogen into oil and gas over geological time. The depth and thermal history of the source rock determine the timing and volume of hydrocarbon generation.
