Thermal maturity
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003806
A measure of the extent to which organic matter in source rocks has been subjected to heat over geological time, leading to the generation of hydrocarbons. This process transforms kerogen into oil and then gas as temperature and burial depth increase. It is quantified using vitrinite reflectance, a standard optical method.
