Generation
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001662
The process by which organic matter buried in sedimentary rocks is transformed into hydrocarbons (oil and natural gas) through the effects of heat and pressure over geological time. This conversion occurs within a specific temperature window known as the oil window or gas window. The efficiency of hydrocarbon generation depends on the type of organic matter and the thermal history of the source rock.
