Hydrocarbon kitchen
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001903
A geological region where organic-rich source rocks have reached sufficient temperature and pressure conditions to generate and expel hydrocarbons, primarily oil and natural gas. This process, known as maturation, occurs over millions of years as organic matter is buried deeper within the Earth's crust. The kitchen area is typically located in deep sedimentary basins where geothermal gradients are high enough for hydrocarbon generation.
