Geothermal gradient

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001696

The rate at which the Earth's temperature increases with depth below the surface. This gradient is influenced by factors such as heat flow from the Earth's interior, thermal conductivity of rocks, and the presence of magmatic activity. Average geothermal gradients range from 15 to 30 degrees Celsius per kilometer (0.8 to 1.6 degrees Fahrenheit per 100 feet).
