HPHT
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001870
A classification for wells whose downhole pressure and temperature exceed normal equipment limits, so they need high-strength casing, specialised fluids and pressure-rated wellhead equipment. Thresholds differ by body: an older common definition is above 10,000 psi and 300 degrees Fahrenheit (149 degrees Celsius), while API technical guidance uses more than 15,000 psi or 350 degrees Fahrenheit (177 degrees Celsius).
