Bottomhole temperature
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000424
The temperature of the formation at the total depth of a well. It is a key parameter for correcting log measurements, calculating fluid properties like viscosity and density, and designing completion equipment. Bottomhole temperature is measured directly with downhole thermometers or estimated by extrapolating surface temperatures using the local geothermal gradient, which is typically expressed in degrees per 100 feet or meters.
