Bottoms-up

The process of circulating drilling fluid from the bottom of the wellbore to the surface, bringing with it any cuttings or formation fluids. This operation is performed to clean the well, condition the mud, or circulate out a kick. The time it takes for fluid to travel from bottom to surface is known as the bottoms-up time.
