Tank bottoms

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003761

The accumulation of water, sediment, and heavy hydrocarbons that settles at the bottom of crude oil storage tanks over time. This material, also known as basic sediment and water (BS&W), is denser than crude oil and can reduce the effective storage capacity of the tank. Tank bottoms must be periodically removed and processed or disposed of to maintain tank efficiency.
