Circulate

To pump fluid down the drill string, through the bit, and up the annulus to the surface. This process cools the bit, cleans the bottom of the hole, and carries rock cuttings out of the wellbore. Circulation is also performed to condition the drilling mud or to displace one fluid in the well with another, such as replacing mud with completion fluid.
