Jet

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002068

A high-velocity stream of drilling fluid expelled from nozzles in a drill bit. The force of the jet cleans the bit's cutting structures and removes drilled rock cuttings from the bottom of the hole, lifting them into the annulus. The size of the jet nozzles, measured in 32nds of an inch, is a key parameter in drilling hydraulics calculations to control pressure drop and hydraulic horsepower at the bit.
