Jet velocity
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002075
The speed at which drilling fluid exits the nozzles of a drill bit or other downhole tool. This velocity generates the hydraulic energy required to dislodge rock cuttings from the bottom of the wellbore and transport them to the surface. It is a key parameter in hydraulic design, influencing bit cleaning efficiency and penetration rates.
