Exit velocity
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001344
The speed at which drilling fluid exits the nozzles of a drill bit. This velocity is a function of the flow rate and the total flow area of the nozzles, and it determines the hydraulic horsepower delivered at the bit for cleaning the hole bottom. Exit velocities are engineered to be high enough to effectively lift cuttings without causing excessive erosion of the bit or the formation.
