Jet cutter
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002069
A downhole tool that cuts tubing, casing or drill pipe from the inside by firing a shaped explosive charge, whose focused jet of hot gas and metal cuts radially through the pipe wall. It is run on electric line to a chosen depth, usually just above the free point of a stuck string, and fired from surface. A chemical cutter instead uses a corrosive reaction, and a mechanical cutter uses blades.
