Jet perforating
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002073
A method of making holes through casing, cement and formation using shaped charges, in which each charge collapses a metal liner into a narrow, very fast jet of liner material that punches through the steel and rock. The jet travels at several kilometres per second and stays mostly solid, not a molten spray or burning gas. It is the standard way to perforate cased wells and replaced bullet guns because it penetrates deeper.
