Circle shooting
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000673
A marine 3D acquisition technique in which the vessel follows a circular or spiral track centered on a structure such as a salt dome, so the flanks are shot from many azimuths. It avoids the time lost turning between straight lines and reduces CMP smearing. William French proposed it in 1984 for imaging circular salt dome flanks, and the modern single-vessel version is called coil shooting.
