Dome
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001142
A geological structure characterized by upwardly convex, roughly circular or elliptical strata that dip away from a central high point. Domes can form from tectonic compression, igneous intrusions, or salt diapirism. Salt domes are particularly relevant in oil and gas exploration as they often create traps for hydrocarbon accumulation.
