Dome
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001785
A convex, hemispherical, or curved shape formed or machined onto the end of a component, such as a piston top, a tank head, or a fastener. In pressure vessels, a domed end cap provides superior strength for containing internal pressure compared to a flat plate of the same thickness. The geometry of a piston dome is designed to influence the combustion process and compression ratio within an engine cylinder.
