Compression ratio
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001286
The ratio of the volume of the combustion chamber when the piston is at its lowest point (bottom dead center) to the volume when the piston is at its highest point (top dead center). This metric indicates how much the air-fuel mixture is compressed before ignition in an internal combustion engine. Higher compression ratios generally lead to greater engine efficiency but can require higher octane fuel.
